The Joint Is a Skill
It looks simple. It is not. A great joint:
- Smokes evenly all the way down (no canoe)
- Holds shape without being so tight it doesn't pull
- Burns slow enough that the cherry doesn't fall off
- Tastes like the flower, not the paper
If you're rolling Venom runtz or STRAWBERRY MAC 🍓, you don't want to lose the terpene character to a bad roll. Five steps:
Step 1: Grind
Medium-fine grind. Stems and seeds out. Too coarse = burns hot and uneven. Too fine = clogs the airflow.
If you only have your hands, break the bud — don't tear or compress it.
Step 2: Roll the Filter (Crutch)
Use a thin piece of unbleached card stock (the inside of a rolling-paper packet works). Make a small accordion fold (3 zigzags) at one end, then roll the rest around it into a cylinder ~6mm wide.
The crutch:
- Stops you from inhaling flower
- Keeps the joint shape stable while you roll
- Makes the last third smokable instead of harsh
Step 3: Fill
Place the crutch at one end of the paper, gum strip facing you, glue side up. Distribute ground flower across the length:
- Less near the crutch, more toward the tip.
- Aim for an even cylinder, slightly tapered toward the lit end.
- For a half-gram joint, ~0.5g of flower is correct. For a full gram, ~1g.
Step 4: Shape and Roll
Pinch the paper between thumbs and index fingers. Roll back and forth to compact the flower into a cylinder. Don't squeeze — just shape.
Then:
- Tuck the non-glue edge under the flower
- Roll forward, lifting at the very end so the gum strip flips up
- Lick the glue strip — light, even
- Press it down end-to-end with your thumb
Step 5: Pack and Close
Use a pen, a chopstick, or the end of a lighter to gently pack flower toward the tip — not aggressively, just enough to remove air gaps.
Twist the open end closed. Done.
Common Failure Modes

| Runs (one side burns up the side) | Saliva uneven on the seal | Lighter, more even lick |
Pro Move: Inside-Out Roll
Tear off the excess paper inside the seal before rolling. Less paper = cleaner taste, especially with terpene-loud cuts like Venom runtz.
