Why Storage Matters
Premium flower is a perishable product. Light degrades cannabinoids, heat dries trichomes, oxygen oxidizes terpenes, and humidity either dries the flower out or invites mold. A two-week-old jar of Dark matter stored badly will lose 20%+ of its terpene punch — and you'll taste it.
The Four Variables
1. Light
UV is the single fastest cause of THC → CBN degradation. Store in opaque containers, or at minimum out of direct sunlight. A UV-amber jar in a closed cabinet is ideal.
2. Temperature
Above ~77°F (25°C), trichomes get brittle and snap off. Above ~85°F you risk mold even in low-humidity rooms. Aim for 60–70°F, room temperature in most homes.
3. Oxygen
Air exchange is the slow killer. Every time you crack the jar, fresh oxygen oxidizes terpenes. Use the smallest jar that fits the flower — less headspace = less oxygen contact.
4. Humidity
The sweet spot is 58–62% RH. Below 55% the flower crumbles, above 65% you risk mold. Boveda or Integra Boost packs (the 62% versions) hold this for you automatically.
What To Use

- Glass jar with airtight lid: best general option. Mason jar works.
- Boveda 62% pack: drop one in. Replace every 2–4 months.
- Cool, dark cabinet: not the kitchen counter, not on top of the fridge.
For premium product like KAWS ROCKS 🪨😈💥 MASTER BOXES PREMIUM MOONROCKS 🌙🍯💎💨 or Gumbo 88G, treat it the way you'd treat a single-malt: dark, sealed, room temperature.
What Not to Use
- Plastic baggies: static cling pulls trichomes off, plus they leach.
- Tobacco humidors: cedar imparts flavor, humidity is wrong for cannabis.
- The freezer: trichomes shatter when frozen and re-thawed. Don't.
- The fridge: temperature swings every time you open the door = condensation = mold.
How Long Does It Last?
| Storage | Expected freshness |
|---|---|
| Glass jar + Boveda, dark cabinet | 6–12 months |
| Mason jar, cabinet, no humidity pack | 3–6 months |
| Plastic baggie, drawer | 2–4 weeks |
| Direct sunlight | 1 week |
When to Re-Up
If the flower crumbles to dust between your fingers, smells like hay, or has lost the distinctive jar-crack aroma — it's still smokable, but you're losing the experience the grower paid attention to. That's a good time to browse the [shop](/) for something fresh.
Storage best practices. Always handle and consume cannabis responsibly.
